Music News ROLO: Trey Wakes the Neighbours & Ciara Got that Bank!

Trey Songz has released yet another video off his popular Grammy-nominated album, Ready. I still liked Trey Day better than this album, but I’m glad Trey is getting his well-deserved shine, even if that meant him having to whore himself as the ultimate sex symbol for the ladies…no complaints here, I guess. I read someone comment on a blog that Trey was coming for R.Kelly’s spot since his songs evoke that same freaky-as-I-wanna-be mentality that R.Kelly used (and still uses today) to get people’s attention. We can safely say many children were concieved from Kelly’s music in the 90s so I guess time will tell how successful Trey’s music is in doing the same.

Trey filmed Neighbours Know My Name with Victoria Secret’s model Jessica White. I heard she was rumored to be Ne-Yo’s new girlfriend…maybe not after this video!! The red-light special look of the video was definitely a good look.

Do the ladies love Trey’s new video? And do the fellas love Jessica White?

Aside from globe-trotting, being a fashion muse for couture houses and appearing at various club openings and parties, Ciara has been hard at work on her fourth album with TheDream(Team) and Tricky Stewart. I predict some Heat will result from these studio sessions. However, this new track released from these sessions, In The Bank must have been the debris used to start the fire…that didn’t catch on. But we must remember, this is just a BUZZ record. It is meant to get people talking, curious and even to get us ‘hating’ on Cici.

ChokLitFactory Exclusives: Top 25 Songs of 2009 Part II

So we hit you with the first 15 hot ones of 2009, and now we have the top 15. This group of songs are a bit more uptempo and more well-known songs from either veteran artists or  newcomers who broke through with a hit record. Included in the list of newcomers is Keri Hilson who rose from her role as a resident songwriter to being a resident hit -maker and artist. Melanie Fiona also made a name for herself in 2009, hoping to make an even bigger name for herself in 2010. But instead of me spoiling the suspense, keep reading the find out who makes it to number one!

14. The Dream – Rockin’ that Shit – TheDream is another artist who had a great year professionally and personally. Not only did he marry his pregnant sweetie, Christina Milian, he was promoted over at Def Jam due to his ability to score hits for Def Jam’s many artists. In 2010 TheDream will release his last solo album *tear* Love King. Rockin That Shit was the ish when it was released early last year. Heavy syths and a thumping bass complement Terius’ soft vocals. TheDream can create a melody like a beast and this song exhibits this. And if you don’t remember, the remix to this song was even better.

13. K’Jon – Oceans – Detroit native K’Jon scored a big hit with his serene feel-good song Oceans. In it, K’Jon uses the metaphor of sailing with reaching one’s goals and happiness in life. A very nice song, with some nice vocals from K’Jon.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

12. Keri Hilson, Kanye West & Ne-Yo – Knock you Down – We predicted this song would be Keri’s last chance to hit it big and that’s just what happened. Knock You Down is Keri’s biggest hit to date, in North America and abroad. Alongside the Chris Robinson-directed video with guests Kanye and Ne-Yo making appearances, this song helped solidify Keri as a force in the Industry to be reckoned with.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

11. Dirty Money – Love Come Down – Diddy has really been feeling himself musically lately. While working on his latest album, Last Train to Paris, he hooked up with former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard and singer/songwriter Kaleena to form the group, Dirty Money. Since their formation, the group has been releasing some really promising music, the best being Love Come Down, a homage to the Total days of Bad Boys with Kaleena providing some sexy vocals over a banging beat and a Jay-Z sample from H to the Izzo.

Still in the W(Rapper): Usher’s Raymond vs Raymond Album Material

courtesy of Essence.com

So I’ve been taking some slight shots at Usher lately, since I have been skeptical of his return to greatness after his last lackluster (IMO) effort from last year. I had been hearing some very wack material that just wasn’t Usher Raymond caliber type music!n Luckily, his team is really pushing out some decent music lately and some of it has been catching my ear. So I thought I would share and see what ya’ll think!

Trey Songz, Usher & Keri Hilson – I Invented Sex Remix

This is one of the better remixes I’ve heard in a while and a good look for Usher who is looking to get back into sex symbol status that is currently being occupied by Songz Yuuup himself. Usher’s voice and demeanor is playful and sexy on this track and he coos, “Arch your back girl, Us-her back girl” this song stays in the ChokLit-Pod!

Usher feat. Nicki Minaj – Little Freak

I’m not even sure this song can be played on the radio – its that hot! Polow provides a nice beat for Usher to get real dirty on. In this song he is not even beating around the bush – Usher is lookin for a straight menage with some freak-groupies. He sings, “If you f*ckin with me, really f*ckin with me, you’ll let her put her hands in your pants, be my little freak” (Ow!) Minaj returns the favour as she describes scouting the club “looking for a cutie, a real big ol’ ghetto booty/I really like your kitty cat and if you let me touch her…“  The song’s riskay subject matter is saved by Polo’s production and Nicki’s personality that oozes through this track.

Sweet Tooth: Janet Jackson & Toni Braxton show these young’ns how its done!

Don’t call it a comeback, but Janet & Toni are comin’ at these young guns with a vengeance!

Janet Jackson released her video for her newest single Make Me this weekend. Janet looks youthful and sexy in the video – I think this is best I’ve seen her look in a video in a while. The song reminds me of her ‘All for You‘ days circa 2001. The video was directed by Robert Hales (Robin Thicke’s Magic). Janet has released her second Greatest Hits album, titled Number Ones, this past week.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ok, so – I’m a Toni fan! I used to love her music, from Secrets to The Heat, Toni used to run tings!! After her successful run on Dancing with the Stars (do you guys watch? I can never bring myself to watch it!), Toni has reinforced her sexy and is back with a new song and video featuring Trey Songz, who is on fiyah these days. Toni & Trey caused a stir a couple weeks ago when they made out onstage at the Soul Train awards, then a few days later, Toni and her husband Keri Lewis split up after 8 years of marriage.

Hot ChokLit! Trey Songz – I Invented Sex

treysex

Ok…so I’m a day late, but I had to watch the video 20 a few times to get my most accurate reaction. There is not much to say on this one. Its all laid out for you. I remember when Trey first came out and Chickens individuals were hatin on Mr. Songz and his then birdcaged chest and sweet, not-yet-raunchy vocals. But I had pegged him as my B.D. from the jump! Now these hens ladies are eating their words :P

Just playin. I really like the….song. And the video compliments the song …very well.  Also Trey’s tattoo artist should be…commended.

The beautiful girl in the video is a actually a Canadian model from Quebec so big ups! At least one of these male sangas is still feelin’ the sistas… I just like how Trey appears to have control over his career; the music he puts out and his image as well. If Mr. Songz did not have your attention before, I believe he does now….

Music News ROLO: FILA – Forever I Love Atlanta

fila-1

I know I have been avoiding my ChokLit Factory like the plague. I have been absent from the music for a bit and it shows. Of course my Readers still hung in there with me, so you already know I was cookin’ up some sweet stuff for ya’ll. I spent most of last week in one of my favourite cities, Atlanta, Georgia and best believe we had fuuuun :)

Stuntin' like Canadians!

Some of the clubs we frequented that I must shout out:

PURE on Thursday nights had a nice open space, room for VIPs and a spacious dance floor. The music was on point, if not repetitive, and some of the VIP staff was pushy, but this is a solid club where you are guaranteed a good time.

Club ESSO – Now, we only ended up here because Velvet Lounge was impossible to get into, but I am glad we did because only at ESSO did we get the true Decatur flavour – including music straight out of ATL’s hoods, a separate room for dancehall & reggae, and ladies wearing flip flops – yes flip flops.

Tongue & Groove is a new spot for Monday nights that caters to the women. With free martinis until 12am, a spacious area and a mix of professional meets street ATL men, it was a welcome cure for the Monday blues.

Now for the music! It took a while to recognize what was really hot in the ATL because the radio provided a lot of repetition (but what else do we expect?) and most of the songs were ones we’re heard before, like Trey Songz & Drake’s Successful, TheDream’s Sweat it Out and Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye’s We Run This Town.

But here are some real bangers we liked:

Sammie feat. Trey Songz – Bedroom G

I’ve actually heard this track before coming to Atlanta, but I still like the song nonetheless. Sammie pairs up with the Prince himself to tell the ladies how he gets down in the bedroom.

Gucci Mane feat. Plies – Wasted

This song is a certified ATL hit! Gucci Mane is the hottest ATL import right now and he now has his own hit to prove it! Plies adds some swag to the track as well. The beat knocks!

Lil Scrappy feat. Ludacris – Partna Dem

We just started hearing this song as we were leaving and it shut down the clubs when it played! The beat is ridiculous and Ludacris really brings it with his rhyme. Its Hot Choklit!

Don’t worry, we’ll have more info on the ATL with tomorrow’s posts! Yuuuup!

ChokLit Fresh: Trey Songz – Best I Ever Had Remix

Photo via NecoleBitchie.com

Continuing to vye for the newly available title of the Remix King (I’m sure he will settle for Prince),  Trey Songz has hit us up with another remix to add to his repertoire. And I agree, it might be the BEST remix of Best I Ever Had I’ve heard thus far – including R.Kelly’s version. (*Side Note: if you haven’t heard R.Kelly’s version available on his mixtape, The Demo, you should download it here) Trey’s key to Success on this track: his harmonies (for the R&B heads) and his witty lyrics (for the hip hop heads) that reveal Trey’s effortless flow. He also reveals on the track that his forthcoming album Ready has been pushed back (!!) until September. He apologizes to his fans for the setback and calls them “the best [he] ever had”. I think the push-back is a good thing – Trey still doesn’t have that mainstream push he needs to garner the success he deserves. His mixtape was very well done and shows he is growing as an Artist and filling an empty spot in R&B music. Peep the track here.

Melt in Your Ears: Trey Songz’ Anticipation, Omarion, Mary J. & Drake

We got some new music for the R&B folk!

TreySongz Anticipation CoverTrey Songz – Anticipation

The Prince Trey Songz is back with another promotional Mixtape before his August release of his new album, Ready. He released Anticipation onto the web last week and the response has been overwhelming. I’ve gotten halfway through so far, but the material is decent. So far from what I’ve heard, its strictly for the ladies! Trey sounds great but I’m worried his material is fleeting – how many songs can you make about pickin’ up a hot girl at the club, taking her home and bangin’ it out?. I just hope Trey has a lot more to talk about come Album time. You can download the full Mixtape by clicking on the link above.

*Update:  I’ve listened to the entire Mixtape and it is a very solid effort by Trey. He actually has some really good material on here, I was impressed.

Music News ROLO: Trey Songz Disses the King, Mariah’s New Album, Maxwell’s next Single

trey1

So everyone is going crazy over the new Trey Songz diss track aimed at the reining King of R&B, R. Kelly. D.O.A Kellz is Trey’s new publicity stunt song to promote his new album, Ready, hitting stores this August. Apparently, Trey’s first two released singles have not drummed up enough attention for his project. I am a bit saddened by this, because I would drink Trey’s bathwater really like Trey and think he is a great artist – and I hate when good artists have to resort to these tactics (Keri Hilson…anyone??). In the song, Trey gripes that nobody wants to hear R.Kelly doin’ auto-tune, asks why Kellz cut his braids off (Trey laughs, “who you tryin’ to be, ME?”), claims Kellz is tryin’ to bite TheDream, calls T-Pain a “copycat” and even takes a slight dig at Pleasure P (but why?). Also, Trey laments, “Shout out to C.breeze, you still a friend to me” …No comment.

*Side note: Didn’t R.Kelly write & produce the song Grub On, off Trey’s last album? That was one of the better mid-tempo jams on Trey Day. That being said, I co-sign with Trey that I cannot stand R.Kelly tryin’ to do the T-Pain/Ron Browz/TheDream thing. You are a LEGEND, Stay in your damn lane! I’m done!

Hot ChokLit: Trey Songz – I Need A Girl video

treysongzvideo

How did I almost forget about this one? Trey released the video for his first single, I Need a Girl, a couple weeks back. Unfortunately, by now, I have gotten over listening to this song. I am more likely to bump Brand New, which is a Banger!

I will give props for the video showcasing all shades of Choklit ladies for Trey to rub up on. But other than that, the video is nothing special – but we do get to see Trey walk down the beach, Trey in an un-buttoned shirt, Trey playin’ volleyball…Ok I’ll stop. I pity the chicks who, a couple years back, wrote my boy Trey off as a skinny birdcage-chested boy. Trey is all grown up – Now who’s laughing? ;)

All jokes aside, do we like the video? Trey’s new album Ready will be in stores & on iTunes August 8th!!
